Fire devastates four houses in Pasighat

PASIGHAT, Dec 17: Four houses were gutted in a devastating fire accident at Jarku village, Pasighat.

Two fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire but nothing could be saved. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Pasighat MLA Kaling Moyong has expressed shock over the unfortunate fire accident, wherein the houses (SPT) of Annu Muang and Tajom Tali and Kaccha houses of Christina Muang and Semaine Saroh were completely devastated. One nearby semi-RCC and one SPT building have also been partly damaged in the fire.

Moyong, who also is the local MLA, sought a detailed report on the unfortunate incident and urged the administration to extend all required help to the victims.

The MLA distributed utensils and some amount from his salary to the affected families as immediate relief. He assured to take up the issue with the appropriate authority for relief and follow up actions.

At the same time, Moyong appealed to the people to remain alert and be cautious as fire accident occurs frequently in Pasighat. He called upon the administration, councillors, civil societies, NGOs and students to create awareness on fire mishaps amongst the common masses.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Isha Khosla has confirmed that the fire broke out at about 12.15 am.

Kundra takes stock of works to improve power supply in East Siang

PASIGHAT, Dec 17: Commissioner Finance and Power Ashish Kundra on Saturday reviewed the progress of projects for augmenting the power supply in East Siang and called for joint efforts and sustained monitoring to ensure quality and timely completion of works. He asked to meet the deadline for commission of 132 KV Aalo-Pasighat transmission line.

With December 30 being the last date of depositing the scrapped 500 and 1000 rupees notes, Kundra also asked the administrative and treasury officers to reach out to the rural areas to facilitate the people to get deposited the old currency notes through mobile banks and also open bank accounts on the spot. He also asked for conducting outreach programmes in circle headquarters to enhance bank account coverage and financial inclusion of the people particularly in the rural areas. He also sought information on availability of cash. He was addressing the Govt officers including the officers of power department in the DC Conference hall here.

While taking stock of the progress of 132 KV Aalo -Pasighat transmission line and its 132/33 Substations, the Commissioner (Power) asked the transmission zone to commission it within December 31, 2016. SE Transmission H Bado briefed the status adding that all efforts are being made to commission the 132 KV line and substations on schedule.

Under the comprehensive scheme for strengthening of T & D systems in Arunachal Pradesh, the work of 132 /33 KV Substation at Niglok and Napit has started which was informed by the representative from PGCIL (Power Grid Corporation Of India). The issue of land acquisition for 8 Substation was also apprised. Test charge of 132 KV Transmission line from Aalo to Pasighat will be carried out in the last week of December, the Commissioner informed.

A joint coordination meeting will be convened by the DC of all stakeholders to expedite the works including land acquisition for the substations tomorrow.

Kundra also called for ensuring close monitoring for quality works under the Deen Dayal Gram JyotiYojana(DDGJY). He said that since Power supply to the district is expected to stable, 100% consumer metering should be done to improve the billing of electricity consumptions and revenue collection.

Make Lower Siang functional with Likabali as temporary Hq, GWS urges CM

ITANAGAR, Dec 17: The Galo Welfare Society (GWS) has urged the Chief Minister Pema Khandu to take a needful action for making Likabali as temporary headquarter of already notified Lower Siang district with posting of DC and SP this year. The Society also sought creation of Leparada district simultaneously with Basar as district headquarter with upgradation of the present independent ADC headquarter to DC headquarter. This appeal was made when a delegation of GWS executive members headed by its president Dr. Mitum Boje, along with Health and Family Welfare Minister Jomde Kena and four MLAs Tumke Bagra, Jarkar Gamlin, Kento Rina and Gojen Gadi called on the Chief Minister on Friday and submitted two memorandums separately for Lower Siang district and Leparada district which has been kept pending for more than a decade. The delegation univocally requested the Chief Minister to consider the demands as placed before him by the GWS team, the Society said in a release.

While supporting the memorandum submitted by GWS, all the MLAs including Minister Jomde Kena highlighted that there is favourable consensus for early functionalisation of Lower Siang district with temporary headquarter at Likabali and for early creation of Leparada district with Basar as the district headquarter as the required infrastructure for a district headquarter was already in place at Basar and there will be minimum investment to this effect, the release said.

The Society informed that after a patient hearing Chief Minister has agreed to the demand of making Likabali as temporary headquarter of Lower Siang District with immediate posting of DC and SP and also approved in principle for creation of Leparada District with headquarter at Basar at an early date. The CM also assured GWS that he would get these matters approved in the next cabinet meeting which will be convened shortly, the release added.

Meanwhile, GWS extended its gratitude to the CM for assuring to take up the matter at an early date. The Society also extended its gratefulness to Minister Jomde Kena and MLAs for unitedly pursuing and extending support to the demands as placed by GWS.

Byaling calls for protection and preservation of cultures, traditional values

NIRJULI, Dec 17: RD & Panchayat Minister Tanga Byaling has called for preservation of age-old cultures and traditional values. He was addressing at the three days 2nd Nyishi Art & Cultural Festival and Nyishi Film Award-2016 cum 3rd general conference of Nyishi Art & Culture Welfare Society here on Saturday.

"Our culture, customs, and dialects are our identity," he said, and appealed one and all to work together for protection and promotion of our (tribal) cultural identity.

Parliamentary Secretary (Home) Pani Taram highlighted the impacts of westernization on indigenous culture.

Our aged old traditional and cultural values must be preserved and protected; otherwise our identity will be no where and we may lose our identity in the times to come, he said.

The tribal folksongs and folk dance have lots of meaning and values, he said, assured his fullest support to those, who work for promotion of tribal language and preservation of age-old cultural heritage of Nyishi community.

Among others, NACWS Chairman Bengia Tabb, general secretary Byabang Jamja and other spoke on the occasion.

Many legendary singers, young artist from different parts of state, youth and community leaders and local people were present.

The website of NACWS was also launched by the dignatories.

In afternoon, a symposium was organised on Nyishi language; its challenges and opportunities was tabled by Dr. Tana Sworen Tara and Dr. Nabam Naka Hina.

BJYM should not mislead people: APYC

ITANAGAR, Dec 17: The war of words between the young wings of the political arch rivals BJP and Congress in the state further escalated today as Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) members with Indian Youth Congress (IYC) General Secretary, Indrani Mishra and Secretary, Sarifa Rahman in tow, lashing out at the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) for questioning the integrity of its party leaders and ridiculing the party as being in 'Neck-deep scams.'

Addressing the media persons at Arunachal Press Club, a irked APYC Spokesperson Niglar Veo said that allegations of corrupt charges against the union Minister of State (Home), Kiren Rijiju, a BJP MP from the state, was not orchestrated by the Congress but rather by an official from the concern department, NEEPCO.

"As such," Veo lamented, "there is no reason for the BJP or its youth wing to point fingers at the Congress party or its leaders for raising the matter and BJYM in particular, should not mislead the people by desperately trying to train their guns on our leaders like Nabam Tuki and Takam Sunjoy for raising a genuine concern."

Also informing that Miali Sanchoju, the APYC Vice-President who allegedly supported Rijiju has been terminated from the post as well as the party for a period of Six years for anti-party work, the APYC members also mocked the union MoS for allegedly disowning his own brother Goboi Rijiju in the wake of the alleged Rs 450 Crore Hydro-power scam.

"Now, either Rijiju should step down from his ministerial post on moral ground or Prime Minister Narendra Modi who claims to be an ardent crusader against corruption should drop him," demanded Veo.

Earlier, the IYC GS, Indrani Mishra, who is also the party in-charge of Northeast region, took direct shots at the central government for poor implementation of its demonetisation programme of Rs 500 and 1000 denominations.

"Firstly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced of the demonetisation claiming to end black money. However, when the same began to emerge from his own party members, Modi cleverly changed the demonetisation objective to 'counter terrorism' and still later to cashless economy," Mishra alleged.

Sarifa Rahman also claimed that following the demonetisation process, the Indian economy has taken a hit. Also dwelling on the corruption charges against Rijiju, the IYC Secretary remarked that Rijiju has been irresponsible in signing the papers related to the hydro-power by virtue of which, he is now privy to the alleged Rs 450 worth of scam.

Workshop on Vision Document for Arunachal Pradesh conducted by AVP

ITANAGAR, Dec 17: A day-long workshop on Vision Document for Arunachal Pradesh was conducted by Arunachal Vikas Parishad (AVP) at State Banquet Hall here on Saturday, wherein 48 scholars from different walks of life participated.

While elaborating the idea behind developing the Vision Document in his key note address in the inaugural session, Dr. Joram Begi emphasized on finalizing the number of tribal communities in the state, implementing the development vision on the basis of area wise tribal population, their literacy rate, economic conditions, topography, opportunities, local customs and natural resources.

He alerted on changing demography of the state, less percentage of tribal population in many of the districts, like Dibang, Lohit, and Changlang and suggested to evolve a policy to control it and have a plan of balanced development. He also insisted on more reservation for Tribal population of the state in central educational institutes and services.

He stated that making a Vision Document by an NGO is important, because they are working in the grassroots level and know well the condition of the society, reasons behind demographic changes, needs of the people and potential as well.

Professor Tamo Mibang, Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University appreciated the initiative of AVP and appealed all to contribute their ideas in developing such an important document for the all-round development of the state.

Applauding the contribution of NGO's like Vivekananda Kendra, Seva Bharati, and AVP he said that it must be recognized by the GoAP and the local people and shall learn to serve selflessly for the nation.

While talking about the Vision Document for Arunachal Pradesh he took in account all the proposed sectors to be discussed in the seminar and give valuable suggestions. He appealed all to come out of the dependency syndrome and make Arunachal Pradesh a Self-dependent State of the country.

After the Inaugural cum plenary session the delegates discussed for long time in sector wise parallel sessions on given issues like Social, Economic, Infrastructure development and Governance.

The scholars gave substantial suggestions on different topics like Education, health, Skill development, Administration, reservation policies, Customary laws, land reforms, forest rights, dams, border area development, road connectivity, natural resources, agro- horticulture prospects, Micro finance, biodiversity etc.

Those parallel sessions were coordinated by Tony Koyu, Y.D. Thongchi, Dr. Joram Begi, Mara Kocho and Tayum Tok.

In the concluding session the coordinators presented the papers and suggestions of their respective groups.

Indra Mallo Tana, Secretary RD, put her concluding remarks at the end hoping that the noble endeavor will be benefited for all; GoAP shall incorporate it in its developmental plans.

While appreciating the innovative ideas shared by the participants particularly in the field of education she said that it will help to preserve and promote our tribal dialects.

She emphasized on making the financially self dependent.

Er Tayum Tok informed that the Vision Document will be developed in a book form and submitted to central and State government soon.

A good number of Scholars from various fields participated actively in the workshop.

MLA Sawin urges villagers to say no to opium cultivation

KHONSA, Dec 17: Khonsa East MLA Wanglam Sawin has urged villagers of Kolam and nearby villages to say no to opium cultivation and adopt cash crops like large cardamom, Black pepper, large chilly, large ginger and announced that he would financially assist them in the venture and also provide storage facility for large cardamom from his MLA LAD. He said this on Friday during the inauguration of the upgraded Upper Primary School to Secondary School at Upper Kolam village amidst huge gathering of HoDs, PRIs, Chiefs, GBs, Public and Students of Upper and Lower Kolam village.

He further assured to develop education scenario in his constituency by posting subject teachers and giving basic necessities including infrastructure development.

Responding to the public memorandum pertaining to Health Sub-Centre at Kolam, Multipurpose Community Hall at Lower Kolam, Electric connectivity from Sanliam to Kolam village instead of prevailing power connection via Lazu and Thungjang, Sawin requested the villagers to come forward to donate land for establishment of new development activities adding that he would apprise the matter to the state government.

On the same day Tirap DC Ravi Jha, IAS, inaugurated community hall at Upper Kolam village in presence of the local MLA, ZPC Sontung Bangsia, HoDs, PRIs, Chief of Upper Kolam, GBs of Upper Kolam and Lower Kolam village and he announced to set up a drier unit for large cardamom from his Untied Fund for Kolam village.

Saying that transfer and posting of teachers has been empowered to concern DCs, he appealed the public leaders to cooperate with district administration for rationalizing the number of teachers considering the strength of the school. He further urged the public of Tirap district to enroll for AADHAR to get benefit from various government subsidies, schemes and stipend.

Disaster management awareness programme held

BOMDILA, Dec 17: A week-long Disaster Management Awareness Programme and School Safety Programme / Community Awareness Programme were organized in various government and semi-government schools here at the West Kameng district headquarters. Beginning on Dec 12,

it was conducted by 12 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Doimukh in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority.

On day one at Government Higher Secondary School Bomdila, DC Sonal Swaroop dwelling on the various types of disasters urged the students and the teaching community to co-operate with the master trainers in order to get the desired result. She said that the objective is to seek the preventive and the preparedness measures so as to minimize the risk factors and to be prepared for immediate response including rescue and rehabilitation exercises.

Co-ordinated by the DDMO Tongchin, the NDRF team headed by Assistant Commandant Ajay Bhahadur Singh, Inspector Sunil Kr. Shanti and Sub-Inspector Gyan Anand Shah, the team demonstrated on the basic techniques of the rescue operation while coping with natural disasters and also highlighted on the use of the improvised methods from the available sources. Besides mock drills, the students, teachers and the villagers were also taught to give first aid to the victims during disasters.

The programme concluded at Middle School Sera with a mock drill and demonstration on fire safety by the Fire Brigade unit where Do's and Don'ts on fire precaution were highlighted by the Sub-Fire Officer Alai Tana.

Another week-long programme would be conducted at administrative unit Bhalukpong beginning from December 19. (DIPRO)

2nd phase of FARM launched for 15 villages of Changlang

ITANAGAR, Dec 17: Seva Kendra Arunachal East (SKAE) in collaboration with Caritas India launched the second phase of Facilitating Agricultural Regeneration Measures (FARM) on December 16 at Balinong village under Kharsang circle of Changlang district.

To promote and facilitate organic farming in North East India, particularly in Arunachal Pradesh, SKAE the Social Service wing of the Diocese of Miao launched its second phase of FARM North East for 15 villages of Changlang District at the Balinong Community Hall.

The Circle Officer of Kharsang Mr. Roy, who attended the programme, appreciated the initiative of Seva Kendra and highlighted the importance of eating organic food.

Bishop George, President of AKAE stressed on the importance of conservation of environment in the context of rapid climatic changes at present.

"We are in the middle of winter yet we need to have fan in this hall is an example of the dangerous climatic change that we see today," he said.

"All the trees that we have are what our fore fathers left behind. If we do not plant but only cut, there will be no trees, no rain, and no water for our next generation," he cautioned.

Mintu Mosahary, the project coordinator for FARM NE gave a summary of the first phase of the project implementation for 20 villages under Bordumsa circle three years ago and Sr. Rincy the Director of SKAE highlighted the scopes in second phase in 15 villages of Kharsang Miao Circle.

Mishra, AFS from Agricultural Department too informed the people about the Kishan Call Centre number and appealed to dial 1800-180-1551 for any assistance with farming related queries.

Workshop cum awareness campaign on e-transaction

ITANAGAR, Dec 17: A workshop cum awareness campaign on "Less Cash to Cash Less" digital paisa was organized by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Namsai District unit at Namsai Town Club, Namsai on December 17.

BJYM Namsai District Unit president Chow Bramadutt Namchoom made the public aware about various cashless payment options. Highlighting the benefits of e-transaction, the BJYM president said going cashless was the best weapon to counter corruption and check hoarding of black money. He advised the people, particularly those who haven't yet opened their bank account, to quickly get it done. He also suggested the people to deposit their old notes of Rs.500 and Rs 1000 in their bank accounts on or before December 30, 2016.

General Secretary Chow Senong Namchoom informed the gathering all about the initiatives launched by the BJP led Modi government on going cashless and also informed their benefits.

He also informed the gathering about the recently launched "Lucky Grahak Yojana" & "Digi-Dhan Vyapar Yojana" for consumers and merchants/traders respectively which got the attention of public.

The two Yojana was launched as an incentive by the government to promote digital payment and increase public participation towards cashless transactions.

XVth Tadar Tang State Level Football Tournament begins

ITANAGAR, Dec 17: The XVth Tadar Tang State Level Football Tournament began at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun on Saturday with the participation of a total of 21 teams. The 21 teams participating in the tournament include; Capital Complex, W/Kameng, Changlang, Longding, Papum Pare, L/Dibang Valley, E/ Kameng, E/Siang, Arunachal Pradesh Police, Anjaw, Lohit, U/Subansiri, W/Siang, Dibang Valley, Siang, Tawang, Namsai, Kurung Kumey, U/Siang, L/Subansiri and Kra Daadi.

Addressing the huge crowd of football lovers, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Passang Dorjee Sona advised the youths to remain dedicated towards sports and take up sports as a career. 'The whole concept about sports has changed and parents now regard sports as a career and encourage their children', said Sona adding that the state government has also initiated various measures to nurture talented youths.

The Parliamentary Secretary further advised the players to play fair and maintain the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

The opening match played between defending champion Capital Complex and Kurung Kumey ended in a draw.

Capital Complex started the match on attacking note and hit the cross within 2 minutes of the play. Midfield was dominated by Capital Complex but Kurung Kumey made numerous counter attack spearheaded by their prolific striker P Karma and Tamchi Tassung.

In the second half CC coach Kipa Bharat made couple of changes to keep up the attacking play. Well-known striker Tadar Kojum was sent in but could not disturb the score till regulation time.

Meanwhile, APFA Secretary Kipa Ajay informed that Tirap District has been banned for two years and imposed penalty of Rs 20,000 for withdrawing from tournament in the last minute causing many inconveniences to the organizing committee.

The decision was taken by Disciplinary Committee of APFA.

There will be three matches on December 18. Kra-Daadi will face Changlang in the first match at 10 am and East Kameng will meet West Kameng at 12 noon. East Siang will be up against APP in the last match of the day at 2pm.

Papum Pare District level Subroto Cup begins

ITANAGAR, Dec 17: GHSS, Doimukh defeated GHSS, Naharlagun 4 -2 in the inaugural match of the 5th District Level Subroto Cup Football Tournament - 2017 of Papum Pare district at Rono Ground, Doimukh on Saturday.

GHSS, Doimukh took an early lead through goal from Poha Dapu which was equalized within 7 minute by Tatang Tabam of GHSS, Naharlagun. Defending district champion Doimukh was leading Naharlagun 2-1 at the first half with another goal from Tana John in the last minute of first half.

Doimukh dominated the second half too and Bedik Tajam scored the third goal. Beleaguered GHSS, Naharlagun made all out efforts to restore the parity and was able score the second goal through Hanu Taro. However, Bedik Tajam spoiled the hope of under pressure Naharlagun by scoring one more goal in the last five minutes of second half.

GHSS, Doimukh will meet GHSS, Polo Colony in first semifinal on December 19.

GHSS, Arunodaya will play against GHSS, Ganga at 9.30am and GHSS, Itanagar will meet GHSS, Balijan at 12 noon on December 18.

Earlier, Anchal Samity Chairperson of Doimukh Yab Lotus, who kicked off the tournament, urged the participating schools to maintain discipline throughout the tournament and play the game with team spirit.

Bomja United, Gorkha Cricket Club enter semis of Winter Cup T20

TAWANG, Dec 17: Bomja United and Gorkha Cricket Club entered into the semi-finals of the Winter Cup T20 Cricket Tournament.

Bomja United beat Mon Tawang Vigilance (MTV) in the first quarter final while Gorkha Cricket Club defeated Kitpi United in the second quarterfinals to secure their places in the semifinals.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, MTV put a mammoth score of 199/6 on board, riding on opener Gadi's fine knock of 80.

Chasing the tournament's second highest target of 200, Bomjha United opener Tsering Wangdi hit a blitzkrieg knock of 64 runs while Man of the match Hitendra Triphathi top-scored with 94 runs.

Bomjha United achieved the feat of the most successful chase of the tourney in mere 18.2 overs, owing to toothless bowling attack of Mon Tawang Vigilance.

In the second quarter final, Gorkha cricket club sealed their semifinal berth by registering a comfortable win over Kitpi United. Gorkha chased down a modest target of 130 runs.

4th Christmas Football Tournament kicks off

ITANAGAR, Dec 17: Arunachal Pradesh Bamboo Resources Development Agency Chairman Yora Tagung on Saturday kicked off the 4th Christmas Premier Nine Tigers Football Tournament, 2016 at IG Park here.

The opening match was played between Arunachal Sporting Club and Ward No 7 Football Club and the match ended in 1-1 draw.

Chief Auditor of Itanagar Market Welfare Association Hania Tara Kin also attended the opening ceremony.

The tournament is organized by E-Sector Indira Gandhi Park Youth Association.

ITANAGAR, Dec 17: The new statue of former education minister Late Dera Natung was unveiled at Dera Natung Govt College here on Saturday.

Addressing the gathering, Education Minister Honchun Ngandam appealed to the student community to be sincere, hardworking and dedicate themselves to their studies for bright future.

Among others parliamentary Secretary RD & Panchayat Raj Mama Natung, DNGC Principal I/C Tok Kumar, Prof MQ Khan also spoke on the occasion.

Later, the dignitaries also took part in a tree plantation programme in the college premise.

34 surgeries performed in operation camp

ITANAGAR, Dec 17: A total of 34 surgeries for various ailments, like Gall Bladder stone, Appendicitis, Hernia, Breast Lumps etc. were performed during free surgery camp organized by Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti in association with District Health Society, Changlang from December 12-17.

Dr. Qutub Nadaf, General Surgeon from USA and Dr. Samir Kr. Saikia, Anesthetist from VKNRL Hospital, Numaligarh, Assam rendered their valuable services for the poor and needy patients.

The camp was inaugurated on December 12 by Parliamentary Secretary Phosum Khimhun. He lauded the noble efforts of Vivekananda Kendra and assured all possible help for such welfare activities in future also. Changlang Deputy Commissioner W Khimhun on December 16 visited the hospital and interacted with visiting doctors and patients and appreciated the initiative.

Training on office rules for IMC officials

ITANAGAR, Dec 17: One day training on office/conduct rules was conducted for the officials of Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) on Saturday.

Addressing the trainees, Habung Lampung, CMEO, IMC underscored the importance of learning/knowing basic service/conduct rules by all Govt. servants. He asked the officials to discharge duties with outmost dedication and sincerity for prompt delivery of public services.

He reminded the officials that we are public servants and accountable for our conduct.

V Thomas, Senior Assistant, AP Secretariat, Personnel Branch imparted training on basic conduct Rules etc who attended as Resource Person.

The Training was attended by Municipal Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineers, Junior Engineer, ADO, Assistant, Community Organizers, Personal assistant cum Computer Operators of Itanagar Municipal Council.

Book on Tagin language released

DAPORIJO, Dec 17: Book on Tagin language for learners was released by Tagin Cultural Society (TCS) here on Friday.

TCS vice president Dr. Tara Nayam, after releasing the book, urged the members to work hard to promote the book and language learning in every section of the society to preserve and popularize Tagin language.

TCS Secretary General Lardik Kare, highlighting the aims and objectives of releasing the book, encouraged each and every member of the community to speak/use the language in day-to-day activities.

He urged members of the community to use the language at home, places of worship, markets, learning institutes, which would go a long way in promoting and popularizing Tagin language.

Study materials, like textbook and calendar for alphabet were demonstrated and distributed to members.

Executive members of TCS, HODs, PRI leaders, students and business community were present during the book releasing function.

Meantime, a Tagin language awareness programme and training camp was organized at new circuit house at Dumporijo, which was inaugurated by ADC Dumporijo Otem Jamoh on Saturday.

The participants were trained on Tagin alphabets and its phonetic sound during the training programme.

KVK conducts technology demonstration under ATMA

ITANAGAR, Dec 17: A day-long technology demonstration and Bordeaux mixture preparation and their uses in citrus (orange) orchards was conducted by KVK West Siang, ICAR A.P-Centre, Basar at Bam village of West Siang District on December 17.

The programme was organized under ATMA for selected orange growing progressive farmers. All together 25 participants, including 21 female, 4 male farmers participated in the said programme.

Demonstration on preparation of Bordeaux paste was conducted by Dr. Kangabam Suraj Singh, SMS in Plant Protection, who also explained about the needs of Bordeaux paste in orange plants.

Hands-on training on post monsoon Bordeaux paste application on tree trunk of orange tree was conducted in a orchard during the technical session. Bordeaux pastes were applied on 52 orange trees.

Tour conducted to raise awareness on banning hunting, fishing

ITANAGAR, Dec 17: A week-long tour was conducted recently by the Nido Youth Association (NYA) with the aim to ban all kinds of hunting, fishing and extraction of natural resources within the jurisdiction of Nido area under Lower Subansiri district. The Association has also served a notification to the Gensi EAC and the HGB of all the nearby villages informing that a fine of Rs. one lakh will be imposed on the violators.

Ban mithun slaughter in market

ITANAGAR, Dec 17: The Lendo Ao Welfare Association (LAWA) has in a letter addressed to the state Chief Secretary on Saturday appealed to her to initiate urgent steps to impose ban on slaughter of mithun in the markets of the state and take stern action against the violators.

'Approximately 20-25 mithuns are slaughtered across the state for sale in the open market endangering the existence of the animal. It is regarded as wealth of the people of the state and had been used in traditional rituals only hence, the malpractice of slaughtering the animal in the market and along the roadside shops for the sale of its meat should be banned', it said.

GAWS felicitate achievers

ITANAGAR, Dec 17: The Garku Abu Welfare Society (GAWS) felicitated the achievers of its society on Dec 10 last.

Taga Taku was felicitated as 1st MA degree holder (history), Taking Taku and Taja Taku as 1st Graduate, Tada Taku as 1st M Sc holder (chemistry) and gold Medalist, T Stephen Taku-1st writer and composer, Bani Taku and Pratap Taku-1st singers and Mama Taku as the 1st Air Hostess.

Meritorious students of Class X and XII were also felicitated.

Condolence

ITANAGAR, Dec 17: The Gichik Abu Welfare Society has mourned the demise of Gichik Tabin who breathed his last at his private residence at Dokum Colony on Saturday.

Born on Oct 01, 1974, Late Gichik Tabin had served as constable in Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) for 23 years. He is survived by his wife, a son and three daughters.

The society offered condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
